Autumn/Winter 2019 Fashion Week
Illustration can bring a vibrant, vivid and totally new viewpoint to Fashion Week. I’m excited by the possibilities presented by Show Studio’s “Shoot, Style, Draw” Project and love that illustration is getting to be front and centre again after decades in the wilderness. But whilst I’m sitting by my inbox waiting for Nick Knight’s email - here’s my take on the recent shows. And there’s comments too. Good ones.
Bar Nonno Italian Fashion Illustration Commission
David Carlei runs a great Italian bistro in Melbourne’s inner north - you should totally check it out, because there’s happy hour with oysters. Over (three too many) glasses of resplendent champagne he asked me to create some works for the restaurant’s blank walls. My mind went to Valentino straight away and Pier Paolo Piccioli’s Haute Couture collection for Spring 2018 (it begs to be drawn, check it out here). Here’s some preparatory work, some inspirations, and you should also listen to this fabulous and completely relevant podcast.
The 100 Day Project
In 2016 I undertook The 100 Day Project. The brainchild of Elle Luna, the purpose of this is to create something each day, for 100 days. My topic of choice was Yves Saint Laurent and I created 100 different illustrations of his work (with some Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati and Alber Elbaz thrown in for good measure.) You can see all 100 illustrations on my Instagram.
